They may add sand or other additives to the mix before adding the recommended amount of water. If the contractor’s equipment is not reliable, the sealcoating could be too thick or too thin, contain too much sand or have its quality compromised in other ways.
Tanks with Agitators are Often Essential
On all but the smallest jobs, sealcoating contractors need a tank that is capable of holding a sufficient amount of mixed sealant. If the tank is too small, the crew will have to interrupt the application process while additional sealant is mixed. If the tank lacks an agitator, sand or additives can fall out of suspension, resulting in a product of inferior quality.
Sprayers are Critical for Large Jobs
For small jobs or in hard-to-reach places, contractors may need to resort to a squeegee or brush to apply sealcoating. However, you simply cannot expect great results on a large expanse of pavement without a quality sprayer. Sprayers allow contractors to complete large jobs in a timely manner. If the sprayer is not properly maintained, however, the sealcoating could be applied unevenly, or the coats may be too thick or too thin. If they are too thin, your sealcoating will not last as long or provide the protection that you need. If the coats are too thick, the sealcoating will not cure as it should, making the sealcoated surface more prone to tracking and tire marks.
