Should I worry about cracks in my asphalt?

You really should not leave cracks in your asphalt untreated. Unsealed cracks in asphalt allow water to penetrate the pavement’s surface. This weakens the base, leading to pavement failures and expensive repairs. Unsealed cracks also allow dirt, sand, and other substances to enter the crack. In the event of water freezing, the expansion can increase the size of your cracks causing further damage. This interferes with the natural expansion and contraction of the pavement resulting in a wide variety of pavement defects.
